Losing a grandparent who raised you feels like losing a piece of your heart you know will never be replaced. I remember being at my grandparent’s beautiful home just as vividly as being in my own bright forest green bedroom lined with zoo animal wallpaper. I can feel the way I felt when I was four or five, and I would run up the stairs in their house and jump inbetween them in their bed and they would hold me so close, like it was just me and them and nobody else in the world mattered.

My grandparents raised seven children, and even through all the hardship that I’m sure they endured throughout those years, they were always the most beautiful example of unconditional love. To this day I hope that when I get married and have kids I can show them the same kind of affection and care they showed each one of us.

She was, without a doubt, loved by everyone who had the good fortune of meeting her. My grandfather told my mom about the vast number of people who reached out to my family during this difficult time, and I think that knowing how many people wanted to express their condolences only further proves what am amazing woman she was.

Abuelita, I love you more than words could ever express, but I want you to know that even if you’re not here with us amymore, I will never stop cherishing the times we spent together. I’m sorry we couldn’t see each other one last time before you passed, but I promise you that we will always be together and that I will give it to grandpa as soon as we land in Peru. I’m glad you’re resting and no longer suffering, mi reina - I hope you know you’ve always been a queen in my eyes.

ROASTED CHICKPEAS (omnomnom)

Delicious and nutritious. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Rinse them and roll them around to get the skins off. On a foil-covered pan,drizzle them with olive oil (I personally use a spray which does a better job at covering all of them) and roll them around in a spice of your choice. Bake for 20-30 minutes- the longer, the crunchier!

I hosted a Ryan Gosling film night tonight and made some of these - a combination made in heaven. I covered my chickpeas in smoked paprika. I think next time I might try some sweet ones with cinnamon and sweetener! <3

This sweet girl was dropped off at my Dad’s work today, she is about 9months old based on her teeth and development. She will probably be a 35-40lb dog when fully grown and nourished. She has been very clearly abused, she’s covered in cuts and scrapes and a case of mange that needs to be treated. We cannot take her on, we have two dogs her size already and this house just can’t support her. She is a sweet dog who responds well to attention and just wants a little bit of love. If you or anyone you know is willing to help out this sweet girl in the Wichita, Kansas area, please contact me immediately so we can get her somewhere safe.
